- Marina district -- This neighborhood sits on the site of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, staged after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake to celebrate the reemergence of the city. The grounds for this world's fair were created from a former lagoon on landfill. Aside from the Palace of Fine Arts, all other buildings were demolished to make a residential neighborhood.
- The Presidio-- is a park on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula operated by the National Park Service of the United States as a part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The park is characterized by many wooded areas, hills, and scenic vistas overlooking the San Francisco Bay.
- Golden Gate Bridge-- a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the opening of the San Francisco Bay onto the Pacific Ocean. As part of both US Highway 101 and State Route 1, it connects the city of San Francisco on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County. The Golden Gate Bridge had the longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was completed in 1937 and has become an internationally recognized symbol of San Francisco and California.
Then it's on to the Wine Country:
The valleys of Napa and Sonoma lie 30 miles north of San Francisco and make up North America's premium wine making region. Be sure to take in the scenery in Marin County, as you enter the wine country in the southern region of Carneros, just south of Sonoma.
